PARIS: Serbian Novak Djokovic and American Serena Williams topped the ATP and WTA ranking, respectively, with large margins between them and the second position holders.

Djokovic, winner in Miami, consolidated his place atop the rankings, more than 4,000 points (the equivalent of two Grand Slam victories) ahead of Switzerland’s Roger Federer.

Beaten Miami finalist Andy Murray moved into third spot, while Rafael Nadal slipped back two places to fifth, his worst position in two years. Japan’s Kei Nishikori leaped to the fourth spot.

Serena, who won the Miami title for an eighth time, consolidated her place atop the rankings ahead of Russian Maria Sharapova with a difference of nearly two thousand points. Romanian Simona Halep bagged the third position while Petra Kvitova and Caroline Wozniacki stay put on fourth and fifth spots.

However, the highlight of the rankings was Spain’s Carla Suarez, who for the first time broke into the top 10 of the WTA rankings after reaching the final of the Miami tournament.
