12:30: Jose Mourinho has hit out at former Manchester United managers Louis van Gaal and David Moyes over their stints at the club, claiming the team hasn’t evolved since Sir Alex Ferguson left.
“There was an evolution in the other clubs. There was no evolution in this club,” Mourinho told the Sunday Times.
“In all the areas that make a team successful I think we stopped in time.”
He added: “When I say ‘the club’, I say the football team and what surrounds the football team was in trouble, big trouble.
“Not the club at all. Because the club is much more than results — it’s the fanbase.
“It’s the passion around the world, it’s the business, it’s the commercial, it’s the merchandising.
“And a club like Manchester United as a club can be one, two, three, four, five, ten years without winning.
“Manchester United will always be Manchester United and as a club will never be in trouble.
“The football team I think clearly there was an evolution in other clubs, and that was quite an empty period in this club with no evolution in areas that are important for the football team.
“And that was the first step to try to bring the football team in the right direction.”
07:23: Manchester United star Romelu Lukaku may win the golden boot this season but he’s not as good a finisher as Harry Kane, believes Michael Owen.
Lukaku scored his fourth goal of the season in Manchester United’s 2-2 draw at Stoke yesterday.
However, he missed a sitter with 10 minutes remaining, firing over an Anthony Martial cross.
Kane, meanwhile, bagged a double to bring up his 100th goal for Tottenham in the 3-0 win over Everton.
His second goal was similar to the effort Lukaku missed, with Kane side-footing a cross from the wing into the net.
And Owen believes the England striker has a better eye for goal than United’s £75million summer signing Lukaku.
On Kane’s goal he told BT Sport: “It's one of those that people look at and think it's a normal goal.
“We were discussing about Rashford and Lukaku who were debating who was the best finisher (at United).
“Lukaku is a decent finisher but I'd still say, even if he ends up with the golden boot, that there are better finishers in the Premier League than Lukaku and Kane is one of them.”
06:00: Manchester United have reportedly left their No.7 shirt free for a major signing – and put aside £100million in order to land Antoine Griezmann.
United tried to sign Griezmann in the last window, but the Frenchman committed his future to Atletico Madrid.
And according to the Star on Sunday, Griezmann remains high on Jose Mourinho’s wishlist.
The report says the No.7 shirt has been left for Griezmann as he would add commercial value to the club were he to join.
