‘Mahama's ‘Sickening Greed’ Cause of NDC’s Defeat’

Former President Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings has marked the 38th anniversary of June 4 uprising with a fiery monologue castigating the erstwhile Mahama administration which he labelled as a government of ‘sickening’ greed.

Struggling to restrain himself, the former president spoke about why the party lost the 2016 elections by a margin he described as a “disgraceful failure”.

According to the former President, the greed and corruption of today is nothing compared to what existed before he toppled the military regime on June 4, 1979.

“Generals were executed…because of corruption, the greed, corruption, and injustice of today, believe it or not is a thousand times more than what these Generals were executed for,” the former military ruler said Sunday during the 38th anniversary of June 4 uprising in the Upper West region.

Attacking former officials under the previous NDC administration, Mr. Rawlings said some of the Mahama appointees amassed so much wealth and used the money as a political weapon to become kingmakers.

He added that the previous administration “squandered many opportunities to clean up and to restore the June 4 principles in the party.

“Ladies and Gnetlemen, nobody is saying don’t make money but make it good and clean but not some of the ones that I know, sickening, the kind of greed, selfishness, look at where it landed us.”

Mr. Rawlings added that the NDC needs new leadership with solid integrity to lead the party back to power.
