Witch camps in the Northern Region to be eradicated

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur said, her outfit will support the inmates to access the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) cash dispersion to enable them to flee their minds from the act.

“As a Ministry, we have identified the need to support the inmates to access the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) cash dispersion to enable them to flee their minds from the act and also ensure that they are all registered under the National Health Insurance Scheme.

Apart from that, we will coordinate with NGOs so that all effort and assistance to the women will fit into the need for the eradication process and also engage in Lestep for those who are interested in learning a skill. We will also coordinate with the NGOs to ensure that all effort and assistance from the civil society to those in the camp to fit in the eradication process,” she said.

The chairman of the committee, Sheik Zakari- Saa also stressed on the need to mobilize and strengthen alleged witches into groups with the aim of building a common voice to challenge for their right to basic amenities.

“We will mobilize and strengthen alleged witches in all the six camps into groups with a purpose of building a common voice to demand and challenge the culture of abuse in the camps and also for their rights to basic amenities”.

In view of this, it will help build the confidence and facilitate the awareness of the women to demand for their right.
