Former National Youth Organiser of the Convention People's Party (CPP) has criticised President John Dramani Mahama’s ‘sacrificial’ gesture of reducing salary of members of the Executive arm of Government by 10% indicating that there are more important issues to be focused on.

Finance Minister Seth Terkper presenting the 2014 fiscal policy announced that the salaries of all members of the Executive arm of Government including the President and his vice will be reduced by 10%.

According to President Mahama, the amount will go into building Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHIPS) compounds to support mainstream health delivery in the country.

James Kwabena Bonfeh popularly known as Kabila said on ‘Kokrokoo’ programme Monday that even though the gesture can be described as sacrificial, it will amount to nothing if issues like corruption and judgment debts are not dealt with.

“…even if the President and his ministers are going to sacrifice their entire salaries, it will mean nothing if what is supposed to be done are not done… There is a leakage which has not been blocked in terms of corruption and other vices and so no matter how much money you bring into the system, you are doing nothing...The problem is financial indiscipline, economic recklessness by a country especially the executive and so adding more money and funds is not the answer,” he asserted.
