Kogi state Deputy Governor, Mr. Yomi Awoniyi, has described as worrisome the 2010 sentinel survey figure of 5.8 per cent HIV/AIDS prevalence in the state.
The government’s concern in a statement by his Press Secretary, Mr. Michael Abu, in Lokoja ealier today.
He said an estimated 60 per cent of people living with the virus patronised private health facilities, urging the state Ministry of Health to monitor and evaluate the performance indicators to ensure testing and treatment in a focused and result-oriented manner.
The deputy governor said, “The disturbing reality calls for attention by all.”
He stressed the need for the state government to adopt the Presidential Comprehensive Response Plan to tackle the scourge.
The deputy governor gave the assurance that government was committed to ensuring the good health of citizens.
