Perhaps the German soccer legend Jurgen Klinsmann can rest a little easier knowing that he is heading into this summer’s World Cup Group of Death with an extended contract to 2018.

The U.S Soccer Federation are so happy with the progress that the team has made under the former World Cup winner that they want him to lead the Stars and Stripes into the 2018 World Cup due to be held in Russia, a tournament for which the side are likely to attract plenty of attention in the Unibet betting odds.

Klinsmann replaced Bob Bradley as the American national team coach in July of 2012, and his contract extension comes with some added responsibilities, as he is also now known as the USSF Technical Director.

”One of the reasons we hired Jurgen as our head coach was to advance the program forward, and we’ve seen the initial stages of that happening on the field and also off the field in various areas,” USSF President Sunil Gulati said in a statement. ”In the past two years he has built a strong foundation from the senior team down to the youth teams, and we want to continue to build upon that success.”

Under Klinsmann’s tenure, the U.S national team has qualified for its seventh straight World Cup and was also victorious at this year’s CONCACAF Gold Cup. When they get to Brazil they will have one of the toughest tasks of any team as they face off against Ghana, Portugal and a nostalgic game against his home country of Germany.

”I am very fortunate to continue the work we started more than two and half years ago,” Klinsmann said in a statement. ”The role of technical director is a huge challenge and also a huge opportunity as we look to keep connecting the dots to the youth national teams, coaching education, the development academy and the grassroots efforts in this country.”
