A bank executive has claimed that he was sacked after picking up £350,000 in cash from one of Africa’s wealthiest rulers and later taking an Uber taxi to deposit it.

Mark Arthur, 55, an executive director at Ghana International Bank, said he had been asked to visit the home of Osei Tutu II, absolute ruler of the Ashanti kingdom in Ghana, where he was given a holdall containing £199,960 and $200,000.

Mr Arthur said he was so overawed by the presence of the 16th occupant of the Golden Stool, a kingdom dating back to the 17th century, that he failed to count the money and instead did a spot check of the wads of notes.
